Overview
During concrete pouring the two side-by-side weirs, each designed at 14 m, were built to the wrong widths: one 200 mm too narrow (13,800 mm) and the other 150 mm too wide (14,150 mm). Rebuilding the concrete was not economically viable.
Instead of changing the concrete, ADENCO adapted the screens to it: 26 screens in standard width plus two custom screens of 150 mm and 800 mm. The 150 mm unit is one of the smallest Coanda screens ever built. Design was carried out with CAD modelling and USBR-based hydraulic analysis.
Because ADENCO designed the intake structure from the outset, water reaches the screens uniformly across the full weir width. The full project was delivered in 8 weeks, and the hydropower plant has been operating at high performance ever since, with zero unplanned cleaning interventions in the commissioning year.
Hydropower plants in Türkiye are approved for operation by Devlet Su İşleri (DSİ), the Turkish State Hydraulic Works. ADENCO prepared and submitted the complete documentation package for the Coanda intake to DSİ: the preliminary approval reports, the acceptance analysis reports and the design reports. All of it was approved, and the intake went into operation on that basis.
